the stent 85% had remission of their neurological symptoms compared to only 20% that had remission with standard re-operation.  The percentages are strikingly different but the actual patient numbers are small 11 out of 13 in the stented group and 1 out of 5 in the standard re-operation group.  This is a promising treatment, however, the long term effects on multiple patients has to be studied.

Having your memory tested often can predict dementia. Neurology 2001 56:1533-1538.   The "Word List Delayed Recall" test administered five times over two years demonstrated a significant difference in predicting dementia between those that had a decrease and those that did not.  None of the participants had "Alzheimer's Disease" which can be extremely different from "Dementia."  Even though people took the test and did not have declining memory some were given a Clinical Dementia Rating.  The investigators also looked at naming tests, verbal fluency, line drawing and word list learning, these differences could not predict "Dementia."  The test may be useful to predict cognitive changes or the test may a more sensitive test to demonstrate the changes in "Dementia."
